Marine Environmental Education in Fukushima

“The 2012 annual meeting of marine environmental education in Fukushima” was held at the aquarium, “Aqua Marine Fukushima (AMF)” from June 8 to 10, 2012.
The tsunami on March 11, 2011, took many lives. Since then, people’s kinship with the sea had been lost. At this event, participants discussed how they could rekindle their relationship with the sea.
On June 10 “The Kid’s Ocean Day” was held. Marine education NGOs all around Japan helped organize 17 workshops featuring AMF’s exhibition and fields (like rice paddies, beaches, and the ocean). 1,162 children and 722 adults took part in these free workshops.
